Local hardwoods, adobe bricks and handcrafted tiles make up the organic structure where period pieces of furniture alternate with artwork signed by renowned Mexican contemporary artists; where comfortable beds surrounded by gauzy mosquito nets are the best place to enjoy your early morning fruit and coffee (compliments of the house). The villa consists of two buildings with two bedrooms and two well-appointed bathrooms each, separated by the swimming-pool area where the fifth bathroom is located. The living room and dining area with an adjacent kitchen are located in the main building. There is a private sundeck and the roof terrace with views of the river, the red-tile roofs of downtown Vallarta and the ocean. Surrounded by lush tropical plants and the imposing shade of the fabulous 200-year old salate tree, the central patio is ideal for candlelit dinners and cocktail parties enhanced by the sound of the river rushing by. Service is the main priority at Villa Leonarda. The staff consists of a chambermaid, a houseboy and a cook who will prepare your breakfast every day. Upon request, she may also prepare lunch or dinner and, if you wish so, she will do the shopping for you - just hand her your list! If you have a special request to be taken care of before your arrival (flowers, champagne or even a birthday party!) the staff will accommodate you. There was a time, in the sixties and seventies, when Villa Leonarda was the gathering place for a number of stars who considered Vallarta one of their favorite getaways. Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton–who used to sit under the fabulous tree in the patio to watch the Cuale river flow by–were only a few of the celebrities that delighted in the unique atmosphere of this house, one of the first built in the old fishing village that has become a world-class resort. Rock Hudson was a frequent guest as well as Burt Lancaster and the beautiful, demure Mexican actress Dolores del Río. John Huston who, built his house on a small cove south of Vallarta, loved to spend the afternoons in Leonarda playing poker, his favorite game. Time has gone by but the magic of the place still exerts its power, and today Villa Leonarda welcomes the traveler who wishes to experience the beauty of Puerto Vallarta surrounded by the fascination of these old walls and the warmth of the Mexican people that has captured the imagination of many. Located in the heart of town, on the north bank of the Cuale river Villa Leonarda offers a charming lifestyle for the most memorable vacation ever! Secluded in the privacy of its cool adobe walls it's hard to believe that everything this typical Mexican town has to offer is only a few steps away from your doorstep - enjoy the best restaurants, art galleries and shopping areas of Vallarta at your leisure. Join the locals on Sundays in a stroll down the boardwalk (the malecón) or catch a wedding in the nearby Guadalupe Church whose bells you may hear tolling from your bed. If you choose to stay in, the peacefulness of the villa will only be disturbed by the singing of birds; be sure to have your binoculars handy… this area is visited by an abundance of wildlife and the ubiquitous iguana, of course!
